Cerro Negro's south face route: it is an icy couloir of more than 2000m which must be climbed in one day. The route takes a minimum of 12 hours and is exhausting. Climbers should only attempt this route once they are properly acclimated. Cerro Negro´s northern route: this route follows along a creek for about 3 hours before turning into a valley for another 3 or 4 hours. It gains altitude swiftly as we traverse to the West ending upon a small, flat rocky outcrop with awesome views of Mercedario's Caballito Glacier. The route takes approximately 16 hours, but can be broken down into 2 days. Wanda Peak 5,500m:
Wanda Peak is accessed by the same valley as Cerro Negro's
northern route, instead of turning off, continue further along
the valley ascending over scree slopes until reaching a small
plateau where the summit can be seen to the left. The route is
approximately a 15 hour round trip, but can be broken down into 2 days. |
